THIS EVENT IS PART OF A LECTURE SERIES WITH INGVAR VILLIDO

15 Detsember 2020  07.00 pm – 08.30 pm (EEST – Estonian time)

We cannot change the past, but we can ruin the present by worrying about the future.

We all want to be happy and succeed in life.
Choices have to be made quite early. Do you join a vocational school or go to university? What specialty to choose? Can I handle this job? Can I earn enough? All these questions circulate in the head of a young adult, being on the threshold of independent life.
However, a person who has already seen life, may already have other thought patterns, for example: what happens if I lose my job or if I can’t pay a bank loan or suddenly get sick? There are responsibilities and obligations too. In this sense, life is ruthless!
Fear of the future forces us to look for bad examples from the past and imagine what all could take place in the future. Has something terrible happened to you in your imagination?
Except for frightening imaginations (which may not be very likely in the near future) such as a collision with a meteorite or a climate apocalypse, there are millions more thoughts and imaginations that unnoticed influence our decisions and choices, shaping our future.
Maybe you are planning to change jobs or residence but can’t decide because you are afraid of what one or another choice will entail.
Or are you tired of a relationship that has become toxic long ago, but does nothing because of the fear of the future and the unknown makes you wonder what will happen if you take that step?
Maybe you have been lucky, you started a family and created a lovely home, feeling secure with your monthly salary.
Will it stay that way?
Looking to the future, it is full of uncertainty and unknown.
Why is it so that instead of being in the present, we tend to recall the past or engage in imaginations about the future?
In this conversation, Ingvar Villido looks at the influences of the past and helps to discover fears about the future, but above all, guides the way to be in the present.
