THIS EVENT IS PART OF A LECTURE SERIES WITH INGVAR VILLIDO

11 November 2021  07.00 pm – 08.30 pm (EEST – Estonian time)

Until death do us part… Does this sound good or scary instead? What is marriage? Does marriage still carry the same idea and power as it did in the old days? Is it a sacred union between two people or a formal and legal agreement?

How does matrimony affect the relationship between people? For what reasons do two people decide to walk the path of life side by side and unite themselves through marriage?

There are so many questions, but the answers range from one extreme to the other. For some, marriage provides a feeling of safety, for others material security, for yet others, it is a sign of great love, while some don’t consider it important at all or are even afraid of binding relationships.

It’s often said that women marry for status or security, while men want to make their partners happy. It is sometimes said about men that when they court and hunt to get the woman of their heart, they make an effort, want to become a better person, but as soon as the ring is on, the hunt is over and from that moment on they no longer contribute to the relationship. Interest motivates. Do men’s and women’s expectations differ here? What expectations can you have for your spouse? Do you now expect him/her to be faithful to you for the rest of their life? In Estonian, the words spouse and marriage include the word help. What kind of help do you expect from your spouse? Who is to help whom, in what, and how much? Is it housework, parenting or personal development?

Are you married and happy? Are you single but want to get married? Have you looked into the eyes of your partner and deeply questioned what this kind of relationship means to both of you?

In this conversation, Ingvar Villido opens the underpinnings of marital happiness and misfortune and helps you understand what is the true benefit of a relationship.
